Collage Curios Thank You

Vintage Collage Curios + Thank You | Stampingville #cardmaking #papercrafts #StampinUp

I'm sneaking in one last project featuring a Spring Catalog stamp set. I stole cased this idea from a card I spotted at the Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference way back in January. Yes, I know it's almost June. I'm sure I can't be the only one who gets side-tracked making other cute projects and forgets about the one I couldn't wait to make. Anyone?

I changed up just a few details from the original, but I really thought this was a sweet card using the vintage style Collage Curios stamp set. This set is the perfect size to coordinate with the Soda Pop Tops, as well as tags, inchies, and artist trading cards. And of course, you can also create a collage focal point for a card or layout as well.

Here, I've stamped the little background verse onto 1" squares, then sponged and distressed the edges, all using Sahara Sand ink. Each square features an additional stamped image in either Pool Party or Island Indigo. The squares are mounted onto punched Postage Stamp pieces and layered onto a larger central piece.

Layered collage images with postage stamp border

For a little something extra, I added two rows of tiny scallops along one side of the focal panel. The scallop rows are cropped using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch and layered together. Behind the focal panel are two lengths of the Ruffled Ribbon. I love that cute ribbon and I'll be sad to see it retire this weekend.

The thank you greeting is from the Perfectly Penned stamp set, which I clear embossed although it doesn't show in the photo.

Just a reminder: Items from the Spring Catalog (that are not carried over to the Annual Catalog) are only available through May 31. Online ordering will be unavailable from midnight until noon (MDT) on that day, while the system is transitioning to the new Catalog.

It's almost here! The new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog goes live tomorrow - Woo Hoo!
(12 PM Mountain/2 PM Eastern).

Be still my heart ...

Sunshine + Sprinkles Hello

Sunshine & Sprinkles Hello Card | Stampingville #cardmaking #papercrafts #StampinUp

Can I just say ... I love how this card turned out.

I started with a rough sketch of the patterned paper shapes and that was it. Beyond that? I was flying by the seat of my pants. Without a parachute. Sometimes it's a really good thing to just wing it and see where you land.

See what I did there? I'm done now. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

ETA: I'm sneaking in with an update to this post so I can add this card to the newly announced Mixy-Matchy Style Challenge over at Moxie Fab World. Cath has provided loads of inspiration from the fashion/design world plus a few creative card samples as well.
The challenge is to follow the current (red hot) trend of throwing out the rules of matchy-matchy, and mix those patterns together. This card isn't as bold or daring as some of the examples, but if you're trying this approach for the first time or you're just plain adverse to the whole thing, it's a good way to stick your toe in and test the water.

To create the shapes, I cut 1-1/4" square and 1-1/4" x 2-1/2" pieces of patterned paper. (I used the Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper from the Spring Catalog. Have you seen it? CUTE paper!) I wanted a bigger curve on the corners, so rather than using the small corner punch, I used this little trick:

How to round corners using a circle punch

Yep, I used a circle punch! Simply insert the corner of the paper into the cutting slot as far as it will go and punch. The larger the circle, the more pronounced the rounded corner will be. Why buy another expensive tool (that only does one thing) when you've got circle punches?

The trendy woodgrain pattern found in the Natural Composition Specialty Paper collection was the perfect backdrop. The patterns are clear embossed on this paper, which adds interest and lots of texture, but the woodgrain pattern is subtle enough it doesn't steal attention from the other patterned pieces.

How to create your own butterfly embellishment

The butterfly element was created using both the Elegant Butterfly Punch and the new Bitty Butterfly Punch that debuted in the Spring Catalog. After sponging the larger butterfly (Marina Mist card stock and ink), I layered them both onto a Designer Builder Brad and added Pearl Basic Jewels.

Hello sentiment with vintage style antique brass button

The "hello" sentiment is borrowed from the Pennant Parade stamp set and adorned with a sweet vintage button from the Artisan Embellishments Kit.

How Time Flies!
Good grief. May is almost over and it seems like it just began. If you've got some items on your wish list from the Stampin' Up! 2013 Spring Catalog, you'll want to order now before it's too late. The catalog sales period ends Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11:50 PM (MDT).

While you're at it, be sure to check out the retiring products  - some accessories are marked down 25-40% off (while supplies last).

Please note: Online ordering will be unavailable on Friday, May 31, 2013 from midnight to noon (MDT) while Stampin' Up! transitions the system to the new 2013-2014 annual catalog. (Woo Hoo!)

To our beloved heroes who are no longer with us today ...

We pause to remember and honor you.

To thank you for your service.

To grieve for you and your family, whose hearts are broken.

Today, we stand to say you will not be forgotten.

And you did not die in vain.

Rest in peace.

With gratitude,

AnyHero Mail: Thanks So Much

Red, White & Blue Thanks So Much Card

This Memorial Day Weekend, our friends at Operation Write Home are holding a bloghop and the theme is Thank You cards. I managed to miss the signup deadline for the hop, but I'm playing along anyway, because it's such a great cause. (Check out the OWH bloghop here.)

Although our heroes do send thank you cards home to loved ones, there is a real need for "AnyHero Mail" - cards and letters written TO our heroes, and shipped along with the other handmade cards. These cards or letters can be as long or as short as you wish. A quick word of encouragement or thanks for serving our country is really appreciated by our servicemen and women. Learn more about sending AnyHero Mail here.

Paper-piercing and brads add subtle detail

My Thanks So Much card will be a good one to crank out for AnyHero Mail. It's a pretty simple design that I can create several of fairly quickly. Hopefully, I can whip a few more of these up to send right away instead of adding them to my growing box of OWH cards awaiting shipment.

Love clean and simple designs? The new challenge at CAS-ual Fridays is to rock the Red, White and Blue. You'll find some fab CAS ideas or play along by adding your creation.

Enjoy the weekend, have fun, and be sure to break out the stamps and ink!

I also hope you'll remember what this weekend is really about: remembering our fallen heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for US.

Stampin' Up! Moving Forward + Birthday Flight

Cute birthday card for your kiddo! #handmadecards #handmadebirthdaycards #rubberstamping #Stampin'Up! #Stampingville

The talented designers at Stampin' Up! always manage to create really cute rubber stamps for our exclusive RMHC (Ronald McDonald House Charities®) set each year and the Moving Forward stamp set is no exception.

This time I've paired the darling blimp with some embossed clouds and rolling hills, plus the funny little bird just for fun.  The clouds are created using the Cloudy Day Embossing Folder featured in the Spring Catalog. I don't believe this folder will be available after the catalog ends on May 31. (Read: get it now or be sad later.)

Cute blimp from Stampin' Up! Moving Forward Stamp Set | Stampingville

The blimp was hand cut sans the little propeller and basket, which I stamped separately, fussy cut, and attached to the back of the blimp so the entire image could be popped up with dimensionals.

The "rolling hills" were roughly hand drawn on the back of the patterned paper before cutting them out. They are basically just wide curves, but I would never attempt to freehand cut them. Knowing me, I'd end up wasting all the sheets of patterned paper before I got them right.

Designer Series Paper for hills below + embossed clouds overhead | Stampingville

The "hill" in front was cut using a slightly different curve, then popped up with dimensionals to create the extra texture and ... wait for it ... dimension!

I'm thinking this would make a great birthday card for a kiddo - or a kid at heart, for that matter. If you missed my more grown up friend card from last week, you can see it here.

I should mention (again) that another cool thing about purchasing this stamp set is that Stampin' Up! donates $3 to RMHC for every set sold. It's a great way to do a little good while enjoying your favorite hobby. Right?  Right.  But be sure to get it before it retires - the last day to order it is June 3, 2013.

Big Bad Grad

Big Bad Grad Card/Gift Card Holder | Stampingville #graduationcards #giftcardholders #StampinUp #handmadecards

My youngest nephew just graduated from high school and I was able to sneak in a quick trip (along with hubby) to attend his graduation ceremony and visit my family. It was a fun (but short) trip that also coincided with our wedding anniversary, so you know there was lots of celebrating going on!

For the graduate, I put together this graduation card/gift card combo - an idea I borrowed from a swap card I received a few months ago. It was very simple to create, using several framelit dies and the Big Shot.

The card uses a standard card base (5-1/2" x 4-1/4") and I embossed the front using the brand new Modern Mosiac Embossing Folder - a sneak peek from the upcoming Stampin' Up! 2013-2014 Annual Catalog.

The "flap" over the top is created using the Window Frames Collection framelit dies; folding the piece in half and adhering just one side to the back of the card. To the flap, I attached stamped and die-cut flagged strips, as well as the "big bad grad" greeting cropped using the Apothecary Accents framelits.

Graduation Gift Card Holder #papercrafts #rubberstamping #handmade

Inside the card, the base is covered with Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper left over from Sale-a-bration. The pattern coordinates perfectly with the new embossing folder (squee!!)

The gift card and little envelope are attached over the embossed area so the inner greeting and gift card are visible once the card is opened.

Speaking of greetings, I turned to the digital exclusive stamp brush set "You Go Grad" for my graduation card greetings. This stamp brush set is included in the digital content that comes with My Digital Studio or the download can be purchased separately.

I simply printed the greetings on Whisper White card stock using my printer, after recoloring them in the colors I wanted. Afterward, I just ran the printed images through the Big Shot with the appropriate framelits.

Graduation Gift Card Holder #papercrafts #rubberstamping #handmade #Stampin'Up!

My favorite 2013 grad loved his card (and gift card) and got a kick out of it being in his school colors as well.  If you aren't doing school colors like I was, just choose a Designer Series Paper and pull your color scheme from there.

This design will work for any occasion and is appropriate for guys as well as the girls. It would make a great Father's Day or birthday card with a simple switch of sentiments.

Dolled-Up Birthday Card - Part 2

Dolled up birthday card

Did you see the Dolled-Up Birthday Card Kit I wrote about yesterday? I mentioned that I created the card from scratch since I already had all the supplies on hand.

In case you want to give it a go yourself, I thought I'd add a few details and the supply list.

To create the focal image, the dress form is cut from First Edition Designer Series paper using the Big Shot and the Dress Up Framelits. The large floral image from the Elements of Style stamp set is stamped across the die-cut piece using black Staz-On.

Close-up detail of die-cut dress form

The floral image is lightly watercolored using an Aqua Painter with Old Olive and Rose Red ink. TIP: Because the paper is thinner, don't allow the Aqua Painter to become overly wet. You can also dab the colored image with a paper towel if it does become too wet.

Once the image is colored, the dress form and the doily are both lightly sponged with Soft Suede ink using a Sponge Dauber, to add a distressed vintage look.

This was lots of fun to create and whether you buy the Dolled-Up Birthday Kit or make it from scratch, like I did, it is still going to be a great card to give and a great card to receive!
